Born in Bern in 1941, Markus Raetz is one of the outstanding Swiss artists of the last fifty years. His oeuvre ranges from a lifelong sketchbook with some 30,000 drafts through enormous landscape sculptures to three-dimensional works with wires, branches or leaves, which Raetz arranges so ingeniously that, depending on the angle of view, completely different figures appear. In Iwan Schumacher's portrait film in 2007, the artist, who has continued on his path of visual research unimpressed by his growing international fame, gives a comprehensive insight into his work for the first time. - After the news of the artist's death on April 14, the portrait film now becomes an obituary.
