Inspired by the music of legendary flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla, La leyenda del tiempo tells two parallel stories: Isra, a young man on the cusp of adolescence, has just lost his father and now refuses to sing the old Flamenco songs, dreaming instead of traveling to faraway lands. Maika, a young Japanese woman, has just arrived in Andalusia with the goal of learning to sing and to express her deepest feelings in an entirely new way.
Originally pitched and shot as if it were a documentary, Lacuesta's work nevertheless thrives on its carefully composed cinematography and its heartfelt performances, even if everyone plays themselves.

Il y a quatorze ans, sur le cap de Cadix, le réalisateur basque Isaki Lacuesta a tourné ce premier volet d'un grand drame familial, flamenco et gitan, entre documentaire et long métrage, qu'il a poursuivi il y a deux ans avec Entre dos aguas. Au centre se trouve le garçon Isra, qui après la mort violente de son père cherche sa propre voie arrivé à l'âge adulte et sollicite sans crainte les faveurs d'une fille plus âgée. Le jeune acteur amateur Israel Gómez Romero, sa famille et ses amis ont surtout joué leur propre rôle et ont donné un irrésistible effondrement à l'image obsédante de Lacuestas sur la vie rude de ces marginaux.
